The frame horn keeps have also now been profiled and are awaiting machining before fitting to the frames. These sit at the bottom of the frames over the openings for the driving wheel axle boxes and help create a rigid structure.

The Cylinder Pattern is ready for turning

Tony Dance has succeeded in getting the cylinder pattern onto his lathe.

He reports "This is one half of the motion cylinder mounted on the lathe. I have one or two adjustments to make on the mounting plates, following initial powering up and I will need to reduce some of the top two tier corners to clear the fastening bolt for the tool post extension. Although the two halves of the mounted blank are held by screws to the mounting face plates I do also intend to screw and dowel the two halves together at the square ends in case of screw shear. Interestingly, it spins under power without vibration so the balance is just about spot on. The machine I'm using has a soft start and variable electronic control within the range of each of the belt drive ranges, so easily controlled, although it doesn't have a fast stop system so it takes a while to reach rest. It'll be all right when there's a smooth surface so I can slow it down by hand.

I've had large items on this lathe before but this on has me working at the limit for diameter but not yet for length. So when I get to the valve cylinder blank which is longer than the motion piston, I do still have room for it, albeit in two halves in the same manner as the motion piston cylinder."
