AMRC Meeting

A meeting was held on the 17th January 2013 with AMRC (Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre) regarding the project.

The AMRC with Boeing is dedicated to working with manufacturing businesses, from global aerospace giants to local SMEs. They work with around 70 member companies which pay an annual fee to access our resources and expertise, and which help determine our research programme
It is hoped that AMRC will be able to assist in the machining of some of our components whilst at the same time giving AMRC the opportunity to investigate the manufacturing processes of the past and how they can be adapted for the future. During the tour of their facilities it was immediately obvious that the project can be mutually beneficial to us and AMRC. One process that may be improved is the creation of patterns for casting components with one of their machines able to produce layered moulds to produce a final pattern. Whilst this won't replace the Artisan efforts of our very skilled pattern makers it will speed up the production of smaller components such as frame gussets and brackets to mere days.

An agreement has been reached (in principle) with AMRC and this will be followed up by internal meetings at AMRC and within the project to arrange a plan of which components we can send to them. This process is likely to start in the very near future. We look forward to working with AMRC.
