Our regular Monday work party met today at CTL Seal and work concentrated on erecting and bolting together six new metal shelving units. The units were also bolted securely to the container walls.

Work can now commence on filling up the shelving space with some of our many parts in store waiting to be fitted to HENGIST.

Four members were present today, Keith Greenhow, Alan Marshall, Mike Sedgley and Chris Jones, Alan is seen in the photo bolting two of the units together.

If any members would like to join these friendly weekly working parties please get in touch via the website.

With three of our normal Monday team on holiday this week just two members met at CTL Seal to carry on labelling more parts for HENGIST. Long time member and supporter Mike Sedgley is seen inside the stores at CTL with two of the many brass items already produced and in store. More parts were racked inside the container by Chris Jones, this allowed us to dispense with three wooden pallets freeing up more space inside the container.

Parts Inventory

With all the parts on site at CTL Seal Ltd in Sheffield, Chris Jones, Mike Sedgley and Ian Henderson met for today's working party. Most of the parts are not labelled and Mike has been steadily working away applying labels. With access to the BR drawings on a laptop today, we were able to identify some of the more mysterious parts. Meanwhile Chris worked on building more shelves. We were also able to discuss the requirements for an on line inventory database which we will now start to build. The photo shows the body of a Class K Davies & Metcalfe injector. When complete this performs the miracle of delivering feed water from the tender supply at atmospheric pressure into the boiler at 250 psi with no moving parts!

This weeks working party concentrated on extending the shelving in the rear of the container. This racking will be used to store the timber patterns which we have already produced. There is still one final level to add to complete this section of shelving, work on this will be done on our next visit but already we have moved all the patterns to this area thus freeing up more space inside the container ready for the next metal racking to be erected.

Although the main event for this coming Saturdays Members Forum will be the chance to view and see the progress on the Main Frames for HENGIST, Included in Saturdays itinerary will also be a chance to view inside the parts container. We are looking forward to seeing as many of you there as possible.
