A Part from Clan Buchanan
22/04/2020
  pic
A part salvaged from 72000 Clan Buchanan, when it was cut up at Darlington works in February 1964, donated to the Clan Project by a railway enthusiast and photographer, Mr K. Moore of Holmfirth.
Number 72000 was new into service on 29th December 1951 and withdrawn for Polmadie shed on 29th December 1962. In service for 11 years yet designed for a service life of 25 years!
The part is a motion pin and collar from the valve gear.

Valve Cylinder Pattern Plug Joint
28/04/2020
  pic
The valve cylinder is 4 foot 10.5 inches long plus or minus 5 thousands of an inch. This is too long for Tony's wood turning lathe, so the pattern (like the main, motion cylinder) has to be made in 2 halves. In the photo, Tony is turning the tapered plug which will fit into a tapered socket on the other half of the pattern

Bogie Side Control Beams

  pic
This is one of the 2 bogie side control spring beams. They transmit forces from the springs to the centre slide when curving. You can see where they fit in the bogie system by following this link and looking at images 7 and 8. The beams are in yellow. The beams are near completion and need finishing on the upper surface.
