Highslide JS The bogie ready for transporting to Derby

Highslide JS And on our stand at the Greatest Gathering
Highslide JS On return form the Greatest Gathering, het bogie needed to be partly dismantled for the final assembly jobs. The primary tasks were to check the clearance between the axlebox guides and the axleboxes. Another task is to procure and fit the side control spring gear.

One of the smaller tasks was to check that the centre slide could move freely when the bolts holding down the V Strips were fully tight. Here John is at stage 1 checking clearances between the stretcher and the centre slide. The V strips are at 90 degrees to their normal position and are upside down. The bolts are also in the wrong side but are there for safe keeping. .You will see that we need to clean some paint runs!
Highslide JS Once the clearances had been checked, the next job was to check that the centre slide was only touching the flat wear plates and nowhere else. Raddle has been applied to the wear plate and the centre slide is being lowered into place. We found that the centre slide was touching the radiused edge on the stretcher so some light grinding was required.
Highslide JS In order to disassemble the bogie, we needed to borrow some of CTL Seal's concrete test blocks. By lowering them carefully onto the frames, this allows the spring to be compressed sufficiently. Here John is removing the frame keeps which would prevent the wheelsets from being removed.
