The cannon boxes and wheels are to be sent down to South Devon for assembly. Here Ashley and Bob paint the wheels with primer.

Checking the fit of the cannon box end covers on the body. We found that the covers did not fit properly so they were sent back to the supplier for slight rectification work. A cover, complete with labyrinth seal, can be seen on the pallet.

3 wheels painted and ready for delivery to South Devon. Most of the wheel has just been painted with primer. The inner bosses have been painted with gloss topcoat as it will be difficult to get in here once the wheelsets have been assembled.

A lot of time was spent in September fitting the bearings to the cannon boxes. This involved identifying the high spots and then using emery cloth to ensure that the bearing slid into its recess in the cannon box. Once that was complete, Ashley painted the inside of the cannon boxes with 2 pack, oil resistant paint.

The bogie spring cradles assembled with temporary bolts before despatch to Heritage Rail Traction Limited in Manchester for assembly. The cradles are upside down - the domes at the end of the cradles will sit in cups on the top of the axleboxes
